First Trip

This summer has been full of adventure for little Lewis and he loved every minute of it!  He is now a whopping 8 pounds.  The adventure started with his first long car ride.  We drove from salt lake to seattle in one day.  Yep, 11.5 hours of driving and he was great the whole way.  Well, until the last 15 minutes.  He must have know that we were close to our destination.  We stayed at Fiona and Kurts house.  For those of you who don't know these people Fiona is my sister and Kurt is one of my best friends for the better part of 10 years now.  He is like a brother to me.  And no it is not weird to me that my sister and kurt are dating and living together.  I am quite happy for them both.  Kurt is the best guy Fiona could date!  Okay back to Lewis.  Fiona and Kurt have a great big back yard which Lewis loved to run, roll in, and lay in the sun in.  The weather was perfect for the first little bit we were there, but in true seattle form it rained.  That didn't seem to stop Lewis.  Kurt, Fiona, Lewis, and I all went up to Kurt's grandparents place, Oso.  It was a blast.  Kurt and I fished while Lewis tried to follow but he is not too much of a fan of rushing water. So he stayed at camp with Fiona which neither seemed to mind too much. We spent that weekend having so much fun and Lewis came home smellgn like dirt and camp fire.  We all had so much fun that we had to go back the next weekend.  It was even bettter this time.  Why?  Well, the fresh smoked salmon of course.  This time Lewis had a couple friends up there.  All he did was run and chase the other dogs.  Boy was he tired and yes again he smelled like dirt and campfire, but he never complained about it.  I can't imagine of any dog that would complain about that.  Sadly soon after our return we had to return to Salt Lake for school.  So, we pack up the car and drove 11.5 hours home.  Now back in Salt lake we are back in school and church work.

Laying in the grass with his new stick.  He loves to peel the bark off of his sticks.
He is VERY proud of his sticks
Really getting into it!
Fly fishing with Kurt and his grandpa.  His grandpa is a legend in the fly fishing community.  It was a real treat to learn from him.  He is 85 and out fished both Kurt and I.
This was the biggest dog Lewis has ever seen.  But like all other dogs he loved him just the same.  Lewis just likes to make friends where ever he goes.
Mom playing with Lewis.  Her and dad loved Lewis so much that they went out and bought little dachshund puppy.  They got an all black long haired little boy who they named Coal.
The great river we fished early in the morning!
All our gear.
The great smoked salmon.  It was so yummy.

Dad fishing right under two rainbows.

Lewis climbing in the rocks.  What a funny little guy!!!

99% broken

So I have had Lewis now for 2 months and I am finally happy to report that he is 99% house broken.  Granted he is a puppy and has his accidents from time to time.  Even when I put him in the kitchen when I leave there are few accidents these days.  He is also learning sit, wait, and in coming well when called.

Lewis will also start training in a few months to become a therapy dog.  I will hopefully start working at a troubled youth camp in the fall called West Ridge Academy and Lewis will be able to come to work with me every day.

I was outside in the back yard taking pictures for my photography class and Lewis was exploring on the wall.

It's been a long time.

Okay so I realize that it has been a really really long time since I updated the blog. School started and well lets face it, it's summer and I'd rather be outside. Lewis went to the vet last week for another check up and he is doing well. He has grown from 2.7lbs to 5.5lbs in the month that I have had him. His personality is really showing these days. His favorite thing to do these days is to round up all his toys in the living room and then grab one and run into my bedroom with it and hide in his crate and chew on it for a few seconds then he runs back into the living room grabs another toy and repeats the process. He goes about doing this for any where from one to two hours. Lewis' best friend Clark has taught him how to dig and carry his tail straight up in the air while he is walking around.

This is my favorite shot of Lewis.

Just catchin' some rays in the dining room.
It's sleepy time. Lewis always has to be touching me with some part of his body.

Look I can fly!!!

He's Home!!!!

Okay so Lewis came over just a little over a week ago.  I just have been too busy to post anything new.  The first day was really rough for the little guy.  I couldn't put him down without him crying.  The first night wasn't any better.  He cried all night long.  I don't blame him though.  Can you imagine being taken from your family and left in a crate all by yourself all night long?  You would cry and whine to.  He has gotten a lot better though.  He is now sleeping through the night and not even making noise when he goes in his crate for the night.  He lets me know it's every morning at about 7 or 8 that it is time to get up and go to the bathroom and start playing again.  Lewis loves to play and could do it all day long if he could.  He is great though.  He has a sweet, gentle, and mellow personality.  He is becoming more and more independent and adventurous.  Now if I could just keep him from going to the bathroom in the house that would be great.  Luckily he does not go on the rug or carpet.

Lewis' first day home.  He looks sad doesn't he?
He loves playing in the grass.

Tug-o-war with my finger.

Catchin' some rays!

He absolutely loves his rope and playing fetch with it.

2 Days left!!

Yep that's right.  Only two days left until little Lewis comes home.  I can't wait.  I stayed outside all day today just so that I could keep it off my mind.  I think that wednesday will be the hardest for me because I have to wait until 4pm to get Lewis.  That's when Cindy, the breeder, gets home.

Lewis loves to chase and play tug-o-war with his new favorite toy.

He must not have liked his sister playing with his new favorite toy.  Don't you love the little puppy noises he make?!
Me with 4 out of the 5 puppies.  You can barley see the little white one under the rest and Lewis' head is hanging out the front.
The second place he fell asleep.  The first was in my lap when my legs were crosses.
The third place he fell asleep.  I was scratching his stomach.
The last place he fell asleep before I left.

6 days left

Okay so by the time you all see this post there will only be 6 days left.  I went to see Lewis today for the last time before I bring him home.  The breeder asked me if I was going to pick up Lewis on wednesday, the scheduled day of pick up, and I said yes.  She seemed a little sad that he would be gone so soon.  He and all the puppies were awake and playing this time when I got there.  They usually are all sleeping and I have to wake them up.  Here are are some new pictures and videos for you all.......

This is one of Lewis' brothers.  He is a rare Double Dapple and is the runt of the litter.  Usually the little runt is sleeping so it was nice to see him up and playing.
Lewis' favorite toy last week was Santa, but now it is this frisbee.
This is his frisbee and don't touch it! Don't let that cute little face fool you.
Lewis and his sister playing.  She is the most energetic out of the whole litter.
Just one of the places that Lewis fell asleep on me today.

9 Days Left

There are only 9 days left until little Lewis comes home!  I plan on going to see him again on thursday so I will have more pictures and videos to post.  Today I dropped my car off for it's 40k miles service and then went to Pet Smart and picked up some carpet cleaner/enzyme killer for accidents and some puppy food.  I think I have everything that I need now for Lewis other then a stack of rags to clean up if he has an accident.

He loves his Santa!
Lewis beating up his brother.
Lewis loves to be on his back.
Me and my little buddy lewis. (No comments Kurt!)  Can you believe
how much bigger his ears are?
He doesn't know how to walk around he trots where ever he goes.

Lewis is now 6 weeks old and is very playful.  He loves to run around and play with his brothers and sisters.

He caught me trying to take a picture of him playing with his Santa toy.  He loves to chew on Santa.  It is his favorite toy.  He has chewed off both of poor Santa's legs.

I brought over one of the mats form Lewis' crate.  He started to chew on it but decided that it was better to sleep on.  He crawled on it laid down and went right to sleep.  He and the other puppies are becoming playful and more active.

Lewis is growing fast.  the biggest change lately has been the size of his ears.  They are huge!  In this picture Lewis is 5 weeks old.  How can you not fall on love with that face?
This was from the same day that I picked out Lewis from the litter.

Lewis going to sleep with his litter.  He loves to snuggle up with the rest of his brothers and sisters.  Most of the time you can find Lewis at the bottom of the pile of sleeping puppies.  There is a total of 5 in his litter, three boys and two girls.  Lewis is the second biggest.  The little white one that you see in the picture is the runt of the litter and is literally half of the size of the biggest one.

Here he is.....

This was when I went and picked out Lewis.  He is three weeks old in the pictures.  over the next few pictures you you be able to see how he has changed.  All he really did when I visited him that time was sleep.

13 days left

Hey Everyone!!!

This blog is dedicated to keeping all of you up to date with pictures and fun things all about my new puppy, Lewis.  He is a mini long haired Dapple Dachshund.  I found him about 3 or so weeks ago and fell in love with him.  He is now just about 6 1/2 weeks old.  I don't get to bring him home for another 13 days.  Thanks Mom for the count down calendar!  I am not sure if it helps the time go by faster or slower, but it is nice to know how little time is left.
